A Moment of Magic is the original 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that allows college students to provide creative services to medically vulnerable children in their area. It is able to be adopted by Colleges and Universities across the United States.
Volunteers go through rigorous and continuous training while participating in A Moment of Magic with more than 24 different training sessions spanning information on HIPPA laws, working with children with special needs, character training, learning specific phrases in Spanish and sign language, and much more, further establishing our organization as the leader in our service community.
Characters are also required to spend 40 hours in a hospital shadowing experienced character volunteers as "Magic Makers" (volunteers that do not dress up as characters and visit hospitals) before volunteering as a character. Volunteers continue to attend a weekly hour long training session while participating in A Moment of Magic. Each volunteer also fundraises for their own individual costume and is 'coronated' at the end of the semester with their very own special character.
Our volunteers are also required to keep a minimum of a 2.0 GPA while participating in our program and must be up to date on all hospital standards including shots, trainings, background checks and more.
We have more than 500 student volunteers across the country and 100 volunteer alumnae. We have gotten more than 400 volunteers through our character training process, and have more than 70 different characters currently on our roster.
A Moment of Magic's volunteers have achieved more than
service hours to date.
